Pierre-Olivier Hardy is one of the success stories of Montreal’s social housing program.
Homeless for about a month, Hardy got into a social housing apartment for a year until he could find a job and afford his own place.
“It’s like a good springboard before getting into real life,” Hardy said.
While he said it was easy for him to get into a social housing unit, Hardy feels many homeless are not aware of the resources available to them to get off the streets.

Environment Canada has issued a heat warning for the Montreal region, as temperatures continue at above-seasonal levels.
The heat warning says that “exceptionally warm and humid conditions” will persist over Southwestern and Central Quebec through Wednesday with highs around 30 degrees Celsius and humidex values reaching 40C.

A Montreal man wanted in connection with a homicide that occurred last week has been arrested in Toronto, police said Monday.

The heat warning says that “exceptionally warm and humid conditions” will persist over Southwestern and Central Quebec through Wednesday with highs near 30 degrees Celsius and humidex values reaching 40.
At noon Monday, the temperature at Trudeau airport was 28 degrees with a humidex of 37.

Chelsea Manning says she was denied entry into Canada at the St-Bernard-de-Lacolle border crossing over the weekend.
Manning took to Twitter Monday to say that she had been denied entry due to her conviction under the Espionage Act. According to a photo she posted with her message, she attempted to cross the border into Quebec on Friday.

Police seek material witness in arson investigation
Montreal arson investigators have turned to the public for help in tracking down a material witness in connection with a pair of fires deliberately set in Montreal’s Hochelaga-Maisonneuve district in early September.
The first fire occurred on Sept. 1 at about 11:50 p.m. behind a rental property on Ste-Catherine St. E. The second fire — which caused an explosion — occurred Sept. 3 at about 12:03 a.m. in a recycling bin on Darling St. not far from the site of the first incident. -

New road closures are bad news for commuters on Turcot, Champlain, Mercier
The ramp from Highway 15 North to Highway 20 West will be closed starting Monday night, for two months.
That means drivers arriving in Montreal from the Champlain Bridge will be detoured if they are heading to Trudeau airport or the West Island. About 1,000 drivers per hour use the ramp during morning rush hour, with 800 cars per hour zooming by in the afternoon.
