Shortly after the Canadiens had been eliminated by the New York Rangers in the playoffs last season, the first two players out of the locker room at Madison Square Garden were Nathan Beaulieu and Torrey Mitchell.
The media were still waiting outside the door when Beaulieu and Mitchell walked past wearing expensive suits and the look of disappointment and frustration on their faces. They had both been healthy scratches for the biggest — and last — game of the season.

Updated: Pot in Quebec may sell for $7 or $8 a gram, minister indicates
QUEBEC — Premier Philippe Couillard says setting the age to buy legal marijuana at 21 may not be realistic given Quebec’s proximity to Ontario, which has set the age at 19.
And there are signs Quebec may be headed for a marijuana sales price of around $7 or $8 a gram in its stand-alone pot stores — again to stay close to the price Ontario is envisions, which is $10 a gram.
Both provinces are aiming to undercut the price organized crime charges.

Allison Hanes: Valérie Plante wants to keep families in the city
Raising a family in a two-bedroom condo in the heart of Montreal wasn’t so much a deliberate plan as a matter of happenstance.
After months of searching and with a first baby on the way, we bought what seemed like a roomy 1,200-foot apartment in 2010. We figured we’d eventually move up to something bigger. Seven years and two kids later we’re still there: four humans, a fish and a menagerie of stuffed animals, sharing a home that feels increasingly cluttered and cramped.

Once-forgotten war hero honoured with memorial plaque in Lachine
On the shores of the lake where he learned to sail as a boy, Canada paid homage on Thursday to James Campbell Clouston for helping to save 338,000 Allied soldiers on the beaches of Dunkirk.
The goal was to bring recognition to a war hero whose actions over six days during the Second World War had gone largely unknown by the Canadian populace, despite the fact that one of the orchestrators of the “Miracle of Dunkirk” grew up right here in Montreal.

'All we are saying': Montreal outdoor bed-in marks peace day as redesigned Lennon-Ono suite is unveiled
The Fairmount Queen Elizabeth unveiled its revamped Suite 1742 to the media on Thursday, a.k.a. International Day of Peace.
It seems fitting since it was the site of John Lennon and Yoko Ono’s bed-in for peace back in 1969 and the place where they recorded the anthemic Give Peace a Chance.
And outside the hotel on Thursday, on the nearby Place Ville Marie Esplanade, those who couldn’t get into the suite were able to wander among posters and beds as part of an outdoor art e -
Former Canadiens great Larry Robinson joins Blues as a consultant
Larry Robinson has joined the St. Louis Blues.
Unfortunately for the Blues, the Hall of Famer can no longer play at age 66, but Robinson can surely still teach the team’s defencemen a thing or two about the game.
The Blues announced Thursday that Robinson will have the title of Senior Consultant to Hockey Operations. Robinson will be working along with general manager Doug Armstrong, assistant GM Martin Brodeur and the coaching staff headed by Mike Yeo.

Lesley Chesterman: A meal in Ottawa is a capital idea
There’s an old joke regarding the Ottawa food scene that goes something like this: when someone asks, “Where should I go out to eat in Ottawa?” the quickie comeback is, “Montreal.” Ba-dum-ch!
I know, I know — not nice. But for a while there, it was pretty accurate. I last spent time in the capital over a decade ago, when my search for a good restaurant came up with Domus Café (which closed in 2014), the original Beckta (more on that later) and not much -

There are certain bagel questions, such as the eternal Fairmount-St. Viateur debate, that Montrealers will never agree on, but surely we can all agree that a doughy, Fireball Cinnamon Whisky-infused bagel is a complete travesty.
That, nevertheless, is a real thing being offered by The Bagel Nook in Freehold, N.J.
Fireball, in the words of alcohol site VinePair, “goes down with a cinnamon burn that you either love or hate (or love to hate).” The drink is apparently po -

It’s no coincidence that Much Too Young makes its broadcast première Thursday — World Alzheimer’s Day — at 9 p.m. and midnight on TVO. The documentary will also be available across Canada, beginning -
