What the Puck: Five Canadiens questions on the eve of a new season
Hockey is back! How cool is that? Canadiens training camp kicked off on Friday and it was fun to spend the morning following coverage of the first official day of another Habs campaign.
I’m excited even if some of the haters believe that I don’t actually like the Canadiens and that I only have feelings for another team that plays in Tennessee! Montreal wants a sixfold increase in bike trips by 2032

Will Little Burgundy homage be Oliver Jones's final farewell?
Oliver Jones sports his trademark sheepish grin. “This is it,” he declares. “Really.”
Really?
Canada’s premier jazz pianist is referring to his retirement, but we’ve heard that one before. Numerous times. Going back almost 20 years, actually.
I’ve written my share of Jones retirement stories, and I’m not biting this time.
Fact is, his fans and concert promoters just won’t let him leave — and despite his mild protestations, he is pretty -

Don Macpherson: A victory for PQ language hawks, not Lisée
Last weekend’s Parti Québécois convention was a triumph for Jean-François Lisée. Or at least that was the impression created by the near-record 92.8-per-cent confidence vote the PQ leader received.
Actually, Lisée was weakened by that vote, not strengthened.
Because, in order to get it, he made a major concession to an especially anglophobic minority among the convention delegates.
And that concession, and Lisée’s weakness in making it, may b -

Wines of the week: Sept. 16, 2017
Under $16
Bourgogne Aligoté 2015, Albert Bichot, France white, $15.55, SAQ #130724. Leaner-styled aligoté, but not at all thin. If you let this warm, there is some texture. But this is still all about sparkling acids, citrus, a touch of pithy bitterness and a nuanced mineral finish. Good wine for the price. Residual sugar: 1.8 g/l. Grape variety: aligoté. Serve at 8-10C. Drink now. Food-pairing idea: apéritif, raw oysters, leaner fish with lemon.$16-$20

Understanding alcohol level in wines: It's all about grape ripeness
Does the alcohol level in your wine play a role in your decision whether or not to buy it? I was asked by a Gazette reader why the same grape, cabernet sauvignon in this instance, can be as low as 12.5 per cent in some instances and more than 14 per cent in others. Is one better than the other?
The reader wanted wines that have less alcohol, and for her it was an important factor in her decision what to drink. But lower alcohol is not necessarily better. It comes down to what you like in your wi -
