Teenage girl struck by train in Pierrefonds-Roxboro
Police are investigating after a teenage girl was struck by a train in Pierrefonds-Roxboro Tuesday afternoon. The girl was injured but her life is not considered in danger.
Police are on the scene to determine what happened, Montreal police spokesperson Daniel Lacoursière said.
Because the accident involved a train, it still has to be determined whether the case will be handled by the Montreal police force or by officers with CN or CP, Lacoursière said.
More details to come. -

Police spying: Quebecor wants BEI involved in possible investigations
A commission of inquiry into the protection of journalistic sources resumed sitting Tuesday, and heard a request from media chain Quebecor and newspaper Le Devoir that any inquiry into allegations of criminal acts by a police officer be conducted by an independent body.
A body like the independent investigations office, or BEI, could conduct the investigation instead of the department of internal affairs or a police service, suggested attorney Julie Carlesso.

Dan Delmar: Jean-François Lisée clips the wings of PQ language hawks
Attitudes on language in Quebec are shifting. The party that has been most successful in positioning itself as defender of the French language is now well out of step with the public. It signalled this past weekend it won’t be going on the offensive.
Language policy (or lack thereof) resulting from this Parti Québécois convention in particular is significant, most notably because of timing: This year, Quebecers have been inundated with media content and events commemorating f -
Opinion: Building First Nations' economic self-reliance
With the splitting of Indigenous and Northern Affairs Canada (INAC) into two departments, a move announced by the Trudeau Liberals in August, there’ll be one department in charge of negotiations with First Nation communities and another in charge of service delivery. And it will presumably become easier for the negotiating department to focus on signing an increased number of self-governing arrangements with more bands under the Indian Act.
Subsequently, the economic future of First Nation -
