Allison Hanes: Counter-protest clashes are counterproductive
The disturbing show of force by white supremacists in Charlottesville, Va., just over a week ago has simultaneously galvanized the best and worst elements of a society in increasing turmoil.
The effort by the alt-right to draw neo-Nazis out from the darkest corners of online chat rooms and into the real world has emboldened xenophobes everywhere who take inspiration from U.S. President Donald Trump. Celine Cooper: La Meute, asylum seekers and the next Quebec election
The unprecedented flow of asylum seekers crossing into Canada from the United States near Saint-Bernard-de-Lacolle is not yet a full-blown political or social crisis. But it certainly has the makings of one.
Case in point: The political tensions on display Sunday in Quebec City between the far-right Quebec-based organization La Meute and a group of far-left anti-racist and anti-facist protestors may be a sign of the political polarization to come.

There would be far fewer patients lined up outside of medical clinics and emergency wards, we are told.
