Montreal police have determined that a package found outside a business on Monkland Ave. in Notre-Dame-de-Grâce is not suspicious.

The Bellechasse area will receive a new transport centre for the Société de transport de Montréal, thanks to the authorization of a borrowing by-law, the city of Montreal announced Tuesday.

While technically it is a case of laying down the law as approved by municipal council, the strict enforcement of nuisance bylaws concerning recycling bins that are left out five hours past deadline seems a bit of a draconian reaction.

Collision in Lanaudière region closes part of Highway 125
A collision involving two vehicles closed part of Highway 125 in Ste-Julienne in the Lanaudière region on Tuesday afternoon.
Emergency services were on the scene, and part of the highway was closed near Du Camping St.
Sûreté du Québec spokesperson Marc Tessier could not yet confirm the nature of the injuries.
He said it is possible one person was stuck inside one of the vehicles. -

Les Canadiennes de Montréal acquired goaltender Emerance Maschmeyer from the Calgary Inferno, general manager Meg Hewings announced on Tuesday.
The transaction completes the trade that sent forward Haley Irwin to Calgary in 2014.
Maschmeyer appeared in eight Canadian Women’s Hockey League games with the Inferno in 2016-17, posting a 5-3 record with two shutouts, a 1.49 goals-against average and .946 save percentage.

Laval police search for missing 17-year-old boy
Laval police are searching for a 17-year-old boy who was last seen on July 27. According to police, he could be in the Montreal North area.
Hugo Sigouin-Fortin speaks French, weighs 125 pounds and is five feet 11 inches tall.
He has short brown hair and brown eyes, as well as a tattoo on his neck that reads “Gucci” and a rose tattoo on his left forearm.
His family is worried for his safety.

When Jim Popp was the Alouettes’ general manager, he traded a first-round draft choice to British Columbia for quarterback Vernon Adams Jr.
On Tuesday morning, Montreal traded Adams to Saskatchewan for Canadian defensive-back Tevaughn Campbell.

Update: Highway 40 service road reopens after gas leak in St-Léonard
A gas leak that closed the service road on Highway 40 East between Lacordaire and Langelier Blvds. Tuesday morning has been fixed, police say. The eastbound Lacordaire exit from the 40, which had been closed because of the leak, also has been reopened.

Montreal man accused of a random stabbing attack found unfit to stand trial
The 47-year-old man who was charged last week with attempted murder after a man was randomly stabbed on Mount Royal has been assessed as being unfit to stand trial.
Jean Therrien made a series of rambling statements while his case was presented Tuesday morning before a Quebec Court judge at the Montreal courthouse.
A lawyer who was assigned to represent Therrien told the judge Therrien refused to discuss the evaluation with her before the hearing.
