Construction holiday: It's still an American tradition for many Quebecers
Once the hammering stops at Quebec construction sites this week, it’s possible many of the province’s construction workers will be spending part of their vacation pay south of the border.
This year, the Commission de la construction du Québec (CCQ) issued 148,500 vacation paycheques, worth about $400 million. That’s about 10 per cent more than the $364 million issued in 2016 because of a jump in activity in the construction sector in the second half of that year.

Opinion: Sidewalk sale is evidence cars don't belong on Ste-Catherine St.
Those who regularly argue against the idea of the making sizeable segments of Ste-Catherine St. a pedestrian zone were handed a significant setback last weekend. The overwhelming success of the three-day sidewalk sale that saw the celebrated artery closed for the occasion to all vehicular traffic between Guy and Aylmer Sts. is surely something for city officials — including a seemingly reluctant mayor — to think about.
