Opinion: Former Montreal Children's Hospital site requires a rethink
The highrise development proposed for the site of the former Montreal Children’s Hospital, recently approved by the city of Montreal’s executive committee, needs to be improved. The number and height of towers in this largely residential development put neighbouring green spaces in shade and limit the space needed in this area for recreational activities. You can taste May's rain in July's strawberries
Your strawberries are not as sweet as usual? Blame the rain.
Quebec strawberries — known for their sugary, even cotton-candy like sweetness — are missing their signature taste so far this season. Producers say the rainier than normal weather since the growing season began is to blame.
“They look good, but they’re not as sweet as usual,” said Charles Gingras, one of the owners of Chez Louis, a store at the Jean Talon market. “That’s all the water (rainfal -

Kevin Tierney: Six degrees of Safdie separation, starring Moshe and me
Most readers will know the concept of six degrees of separation, which suggests that any two people on Earth are six or fewer acquaintances apart. Opinion: Canada desperately needs a cellphone alert system
Emergencies come in all shapes and sizes. In Quebec, unpredictable weather is a fact of life that can have devastating effects on people and property. Then there are the man-made ones such as gas leaks, chemical spills, terror attacks and child abductions.
You’re either prepared for emergencies or you’re not. Simply put, we are not. At least, not as well as we could be.
Canadians currently receive emergency warnings through every major medium except cellphones. That might seem like a -
