An overnight fire at the store Pamir on Grande-Allée Blvd. in Brossard is being investigated by Longueuil police.
They are considering the attack that they were notified about at around 3:30 a.m. on Sunday to be criminal.
They say the fire was caused by a Molotov cocktail and the two neighbouring businesses were also damaged.

How to handle the heat on race day
You’ve trained and are ready, and then the heat hits. Do you fold up your race bib and kiss your personal best goodbye? Or do you fall back on tried and true techniques to help take the edge off a day that has everyone else sipping a cool one in the shade?
For years, exercisers have been offered the same, sage advice when exercising in the heat: drink lots of water, wear light-coloured clothing, exercise during the coolest part of the day and dial down the intensity and length of your work -
Rain can't dampen Canada celebration at jazz fest
As has so often been in the case in the history of the Montreal International Jazz Festival, the jazz gods came to the rescue and the weather was just fine for the big Discothèque bash Saturday night at the Place des Festivals. It had been stormy all day but the skies miraculously cleared just a couple of hours before the disco-crew showtime. That’s just how the jazz fest rolls.
This was the big open-air show of the first weekend of the jazz festival and it was also a major bash to -

Roof gardens and green roofs should be the norm: Schukov
I just got back from visiting my daughter in Toronto, and thought of Kermit the frog: “It’s not easy being green.” The downtown core is quickly fading from (what little they had in) green to morbid grey.
Explanation: She lives downtown off Bloor Street (Leafville’s version of our Ste-Catherine Street), west of the Don Valley Expressway (their version of our Decarie Expressway.) As I drove west along Bloor from their pit/expressway, I noticed that the buildings were -

Catharine Parr Traill's The Female Emigrant's Guide, first published in 1855, is a dense and witty collection of guidelines on how to make bush tea cakes, flavour black squirrel, and survive in the Upper Canada's backwoods. -

Jazz fest picks for July 2, 2017: Frisell's melodic guitar explorations
TOP PICK
Bill Frisell with Thomas Morgan (10:30 p.m., Gesù, 1200 Bleury St., $54.35). Frisell blends most known genres into a highly-individual, signature sound, with all its spaces, loneliness and hope. Few are as melodic and inventive in their guitar explorations. If the recent live beauty Small Town, recorded with bassist Morgan, is anything to go by, it will probably be worth it just to hear them do the James Bond-theme classic, Goldfinger. (The documentary Bill Frisell: A Portrait is -
From the archives: Early Dominion Days were a time to escape the heat of the city
This story was first published on July 2, 2007, in the Montreal Gazette.

The Gazette, Wednesday, July 1, 1874
The seven-year-old Dominion was having its day. Not only did the customary oppressiveness of the weather make a day off work especially welcome, The Gazette said, but those same sun-filled skies made early summer “a time sui
