Women on the Rise, a non-profit group in Notre-Dame-de-Grâce dedicated to helping young mothers, has lost nearly 60 per cent of its funding, as well as its longtime home, but it’s refusing to give up hope.
“There has been a tremendous amount of community support because people realize we definitely can’t close our doors,” said executive director Grace Campbell. “We have too much of an impact.”

Car catches fire on Décarie Expressway, stalling traffic
Lunchtime traffic on the northbound Décarie Expressway was backed up even more than usual as a car caught fire and stalled at the Édouard Montpetit Blvd. underpass.
Motorists were able to see flames shooting out of the car, making for a dramatic scene. However, Sûreté du Québec Sgt. Daniel Thibodeau said no one was injured.
The incident happened about noon, and by 1 p.m. the car had been removed and traffic congestion returned to its normal pace. -
Ottawa, Quebec announce five-year plan for St. Lawrence River
Ottawa and Quebec announced Monday that they will jointly invest $57.5 million over five years for the conservation and development of the St. Lawrence River.
The federal government will contribute $35.2 million, while the Quebec government will contribute $22.3 million.
The announcement was made by federal Environment Minister Catherine McKenna and Quebec Environment Minister David Heurtel.

Quebec’s workplace safety board is investigating after a worker fell from a crane at a construction site near the Place des Festivals.

The Alouettes announced the signing of veteran Canadian Football League quarterback Drew Willy Monday morning.
The 30-year-old, who stands 6-foot-3 and weighs 217 pounds, has been signed for one year.

Quebec’s provincial government is set to invest $1.5 billion within three years in programs that encourage clean energy and reduce dependance on oil, La Presse reports.
