Montreal police arrested 21 people as part of an operation during a two-week period that included the Montreal Grand Prix.
Last year, during a similar operation, Montreal police reported ten arrests.
Not all arrests were specifically related to the car race last weekend, but they were made while the event was happening, Michel Bourque, commander of the major and economic crimes division, said Wednesday.
Last week, before the start of the Grand Prix, police said they had arrested 14 people w -

Sarah Harmer: Two free shows at Folk Fest sur le canal
Whatever happened to Sarah Harmer?
In the first decade of this century, she was one of the country’s more acclaimed singer-songwriters, winning over fans and critics with her rootsy ultra-personal songs. Her 2005 album I’m a Mountain was among the 10 finalists for the inaugural Polaris Music Prize in 2006 and it was also nominated for three Juno Awards the following year.
Her fifth album, Oh Little Fire, also nabbed three Juno nominations and garnered all kinds of enthused critical r -

David Novek a star in his own right
It’s strange how life gets caught up in particular memories of particular experiences long after they are over.
I sometimes still get a flash on Sunday night of “school tomorrow.” In May, it’s lilacs and in June it’s graduation — saying goodbye to the old and reflecting on what one has learned.
In that spirit, though it has been a while since I graduated from anything, I would like to salute one of my mentors, David Novek.
Novek, who is now retired and living -

Opinion: Quebecers need better access to public physiotherapy, OT
Access to public outpatient physiotherapy and occupational therapy services is inadequate and underfunded in Quebec.
People lucky enough to have supplemental private insurance coverage or who can pay for these services will receive them in the private sector; but for many, these services are out of reach.
Our system is primarily focused on acute care, and there, for the most part, appears to do a reasonably good job. However, a large segment of our population with chronic disease languish on wai -
Montreal home prices keep looking up, analysts say
The resale price of houses in the Montreal area rose in May for the third straight month, matching a peak set last summer, according to a report released on Wednesday.
“The improvement in the market has now been sustained for over a year and a half, this bodes well for the price trends in the coming months.” says Marc Pinsonneault, principal economist at National Bank. He says future year-over-year price increases in the five per cent range wouldn’t be surprising.

Cover up: Montreal police cadets threaten topless woman with $1,000 fine
Jessica Sallay-Carrington’s sunny afternoon in the park last Wednesday was a solitary event until two Montreal police cadets arrived on the scene.
Their issue, Sallay-Carrington says, was her nipples; the real issue, she says, is a sexist double-standard.
