Government developing new firearms marking scheme
via cbc.ca
The federal government has once again deferred bringing into force firearms marking regulations that were approved by Parliament in 2004. Opinion: Fighting a losing battle against cellphone addiction
I don’t know why people are so concerned with events like global warming. Quite frankly, I don’t think anyone will really notice when the polar ice sheets melt and the oceans rise, swamping coastal cities. No one will spend much time worrying for the future of people whose countries have been racked by drought or torrential rains. And will masses of people be galvanized into action to stave off the extinction of some of the planet’s most precious creatures when the world’ -
Opinion: A time for Canadians to unite around our common values
As we prepare to celebrate 150 years of Confederation, there is much discussion around the question of a Canadian identity and around what unites us as a country.
Many seem to believe that there is no core Canadian identity, no real heritage of value, and that all that unites us is our diversity.
When looking back to those who founded this country, however, one will find that this diverse group of men united not on the basis of their differences, but on the basis of that which they shared, -

Back to the lab with Suoni per il Popolo's avant garde Montreal music fest
How to describe Suoni per il Popolo? The question is daunting when one considers the festival’s wildly varied lineup – a mix of free jazz, punk rock, world music and assorted underground sounds.

Quebec taps record amount of maple syrup
Quebec harvested a record amount of maple syrup this spring.
The 13,700 syrup producers in the province collected 152.2 million pounds of syrup. Last year, they harvested 148 million pounds — and that was a record-breaker, too. In 2013, they collected 120 million pounds.
The sugar season started early in 2017. It was launched in February but then, after several weeks of cold, there was a new surge in March. In eastern parts of the province, the season lasted until early May.
