Eating fast food linked to potentially life-threatening liver condition, new study finds
If you needed another reason to kick that late-night McDonald’s habit, a new eye-opening study on the negative impact of fast food may provide just that. A peer-reviewed study from Keck Medicine of USC published in the Clinical Gastroenterology and Hepatology journal has found that consumption of fast food is associated with a potentially life-threatening condition of non-alcoholic fatty liver disorder (NAFLD). “Our findings are particularly alarming as fast-food consumption has gone -
Windsor Park residents fear effects of apartment building development if approved as-is
Windsor Park residents are worried a proposed five-storey apartment building will irrevocably change their quiet neighbourhood. If approved without changes, the development will be built over three residential lots between 724 and 728 55 Ave. S.W. Presently, there are three '50s-era bungalows on that land. "I find it devastating, really. It's just too extreme for this street," said Lorena Bulcao, who lives directly across the street from the site. "This street is busy. So with the parking and tr -

It was named by Theodora Warrior Healy who is the Indigenous financial empowerment facilitator at Momentum, a Calgary non-profit agency that works with people living on -
Homeowner’s furnace vent freezes, shutting off heat; issue deemed not a defect
A Calgary man says his furnace vent constantly freezes up when temperatures dip below -20 C, which then shuts off power to his furnace. "The homeowner has to come out and climb on a ladder and get to that pipe and try to clean it inside and sometimes it takes more than 30 minutes to clean that," Milan Sengupta said. "The risk of falling and having an injury, or even death for that matter, is very high." Sengupta purchased his brand-new townhome in the community of Crestmont in 2021. The furnace -

Trans Mountain expansion on track, despite comments from Alberta premier
The possibility of the Trans Mountain expansion (TMX) project not being fully funded or operational by the end of the year is wrong, the company says, despite what Alberta Premier Danielle Smith suggested Tuesday. During an open media conference from Calgary, Smith was asked about pipelines in Alberta and, if the federal government wanted to close the oil and gas industry like she claims, why would it also spend billions on projects like TMX. Smith responded with doubt about the progress on the -

Calgary flights delayed in U.S. as systems outage ground thousands of flights
If you're getting onto a flight Wednesday, you should check your flight status before you leave because a system outage is delaying flights, including here in Calgary. Flight delays caused by a nationwide systems outage prompted a two-hour-long "groundstop order" by the Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) in the U.S. Wednesday morning, which also affected some Calgary departures for American destinations. The early morning flights to Dallas, Houston, Denver, Las Vegas were all delayed up to an -
Kevin Stanfield's forecast: Calgary’s cool one – chinook coming Thursday
This is the one – the pressure-sensitive will surely enjoy a walk with the pups in the sunshine, even as the high stays well below what we had yesterday (4.4 C). As a ridge of high pressure pushes up, the north wind slaps our temperature down. Mid-level cool air will press toward the surface, but the subsidence layer (sinking air) will keep our sky clear, while a thick layer of fog works its way across the province to our north. After that… whoa! Gusts aren't expected to be drastic -
