‘It’s hectic’: snow removal crews, outreach groups deal with major snow fall
Lethbridge has officially received its first major snowfall of the season. Snow fell throughout Wednesday, keeping snow removal companies busy. “It’s hectic, it's snowy, it's blowy,” said Joe Herasemluk, owner of Double H Landscaping and Excavation in Lethbridge. “It a lot of stress, a lot of anxiety for the first snow, you ask yourself is everything good? Do you have good tires? Do you have good batteries? Everyone going to show up for work?” The morning comm -
Calgary could see record-breaking year for home sales in 2022: CREB
The Calgary Real Estate Board (CREB) says the city is on track to record a record year for home sales, even as the number of transactions in October fell 15 per cent from the year before. "A lot of the decline in sales has been driven by detached homes, so that's where we're seeing a lot less activity now," said CREB chief economist Ann-Marie Lurie. "Part of that is because there's not really a lot of supply in the lower price range. The Alberta board says October sales to -
All 'Freedom Convoy' truckers, donors could be drawn into class-action lawsuit over protest disruption
The lawyer leading a potential class-action lawsuit against the Freedom Convoy wants to expand the list of defendants to include all truckers who occupied Ottawa earlier this year, as well as anyone who donated to the fund the protest. If successful, the legal manoeuvre could make the owners of approximately 400 trucks and tens of thousands of donors financially liable for a share of $300 million in damages the lawsuit claims. Lawyer Paul Champ first filed the litigation in February, naming publ -

Winter weather has Stampeders prepping indoors for semi-final fight against Lions
With the wintry weather conditions in Calgary on Wednesday, the Calgary Stampeders decided practising at McMahon Stadium wasn't the best idea. Instead, they rolled up at the bubble at Shouldice Park in yellow school buses and practised there. For players like running back Ka'Deem Carey, it felt like a trip down memory lane. "It was good," Carey said. "It brought back old memories, honestly. It felt like I was in high school, getting ready for a little game. You had your helmet buckled up and you -
Fantasy themed bed and breakfast opening soon
The four room subterranean structure is something similar to what J.R. Tolkien envisioned for his iconic book series published in 1937. It was the dream of Linda and Daniel Smith to transform a fantasy burrow into reality. The result of that dream is the Good Knights medieval encampment south of Three Hills or about an hour and a half drive northeast from Calgary, which the duo operate. It all started with a unique door. "Inside the round doors is a 20 foot long (6.1 meters) hallway and because -

Haysam Kadri tackles role of legendary detective Hercules Poirot in Murder on the Orient Express
Vertigo Theatre's holiday production starts, appropriately enough, with a snowdrift. Calgary Hitmen game against Victoria Royals postponed due to weather
While winter weather and hockey normally go together quite well, it seems the snow in Alberta has caused the postponement of Wednesday's Calgary Hitmen game. Calgary police have arrested a man in connection with a shooting in the community of Whitehorn on Sunday. Officers were called to the 300 block of Whitlock Way N.E. at around 5:35 p.m. for reports of shots fired. James Short Park and Parkade renamed 和園 Harmony Park and Parkade
The City of Calgary has renamed James Short Park and Parkade as 和園 Harmony Park and Parkade, removing ties to a prominent Calgarian who held anti-Chinese views. The park and parkade, located in the 100 block of Fourth Avenue S.W. just south of Chinatown, was named after James Short in 1991. Chinatown community members had encouraged city officials to replace the name as Short, who lived in Calgary in the late 1800s and early 1900s, voiced anti-Chinese sentiments that contributed to -

Calgary's 5-day forecast brings more snow this weekend
Well this is going well, I'd say. Parts of Calgary are now under a half foot (15 centimetres) of snow, amidst ongoing snowfall warnings around the province and another few centimetres on the way today. We likely end the day just above 20 cm total, as a few models now push this beyond the dinner-hour and into the evening. As reported yesterday, the skiers and snowboarders are surely looking forward to this one! Thursday and Friday are still aligned for reprieve and warm, west wind, but that'll be -

Former justice minister Jonathan Denis cleared of contempt by Alberta's top court
A former Alberta justice minister says he's relieved after the province's top court cleared him of contempt of court for witness intimidation. In a ruling Monday from the Alberta Court of Appeal, the three-member panel said a lower court conviction of Jonathan Denis was "procedurally flawed." Denis was found in contempt on April 13 after his law firm wrote a letter threatening to sue Anny Sauvageau, Alberta's former chief medical examiner, for defamation while she was giving testimon -
