Calgary going green in a big way with new solar power installations
There's a lot of work that has to be done in preparation to put up 175,000 solar panels and a massive amount of space is required for ATCO's two projects that equal about 170 Canadian football fields. The Barlow project is located northwest of the intersection of Barlow Trail and 114th Avenue and the Deerfoot project is further east on 114th Avenue near 52nd Street. Combined, they will make up the largest solar arrays in a major urban centre in Western Canada. Bob Myles, ATCO’s executive v -

'Please slow down': High-speed motorcycle crashes drastically increasing as police aim to increase safety measures
Yano Amorin Jr. is being remembered by his loving family members and friends as a man with a passion for motorcycles, a loving husband who put family above all else and someone who would always strive to achieve his goals. The 39-year-old was killed while riding his motorcycle on Sept. 10 during a collision on Deerfoot Trail along the Calf Robe Bridge. Police say he lost control as he braked for slowing traffic in the centre lane. When he attempted to pick up the motorcycle that had slid into th -

Despite vowing to declare a new leader by 7 p.m. Thursday, the UCP now says results will be delayed. The statement goes on to say more than 250 volunteers are carefully counting ballots now. "We believe it is more important to ensure accuracy than rush the program," it reads. Originally, the party planned to announ -

University, college curling lags in Canadian curling scene
In the aftermath of missing the playoffs in February's Winter Olympics, Jennifer Jones and her teammates discussed why other countries have become so strong in international curling. The conversation planted an idea in the head of Jones' second Jocelyn Peterman. She was still in Beijing when she messaged her curling club's director about establishing varsity curling teams for the University of Calgary. A U of C alumnus, Peterman looked north for her reasoning. The University of Alberta in Edmont -

Chance of flurries at tail end of Calgary's 5-day forecast
Some light overnight showers passed by and with it, patchy fog has leveled off along sections of the province, prompting fog advisories near Grande Prairie. Locally, we are indeed sitting at 2 C after a clearing-out overnight. At 95 per cent humidity, that fog layer could be quite dense in some areas, and will continue to be until the sun pops up high enough to burn it off. I'd mentioned on the CTV News at Five and Six yesterday that the temperature drop coming Monday overnight into Tuesda -

Jets dominate Flames behind Rittich's 37 saves, four second-period goals in 5-0 win
David Rittich was glad he delivered a shutout for his new Winnipeg Jets team, but any kind of victory would have felt good. Rittich made 37 saves and Kyle Connor scored two of Winnipeg's four second-period goals as the Jets defeated the Calgary Flames 5-0 in pre-season action Wednesday. "Obviously, it's great if you perform well," Rittich said. "If you get saves and you get a shutout it's nice. I don't really care. "Most important thing for me is we got the win. That's what matters." Rittich use -
