Expanded patios, street musicians replace vehicles in Inglewood on Sundays in August
Inglewood's main drag is going car-free on Sundays for the rest of August. One of Calgary's most walkable neighbourhoods, 9th Avenue S.E. between 11th Street and 14th Street will be closed to vehicles between 9 a.m. and 5 p.m. on Sunday August 14, 21 and 28. That means businesses along Ninth Avenue will be able to extend their storefronts to the sidewalk, allowing pedestrians to do a walkabout without worrying about passing vehicles. There will be live music performed by street buskers, and expa -

You can be my wingman any time: 'Top Gun' geese up for adoption
The Calgary Humane Society is hoping to find homes for two geese named after high-flying characters from the movie Top Gun. The fowl are named Maverick and Nick Bradshaw – a character better known by his nickname 'Goose.' In a Friday Facebook post, the humane society said the birds are very intelligent and inquisitive. "They also have a lot to say, and can be quite loud about it," said the post. "They like to spend a lot of time foraging for food, which mostly consists of grazing grass." T -

Calgary Farmers' Market opens new northwest location
Hundreds of vehicles lined Greenbriar Boulevard on Friday morning as Calgarians headed to the city's newest farmers' market. Plans for the opening of a second Calgary Farmers' Market location were announced in 2018, but COVID-19 and supply chain issues pushed back the official opening roughly two years. Still, vendors were excited to welcome customers through the door. "We've done pop-ups here for the last few years, and people just can't wait," said Phil Faba, owner of -
Everything you need to know about Thursday's supermoon
The last supermoon of the year lit up the skies over Alberta on Thursday night. Supermoon, a term coined by astrologer Richard Nolle in 1979 refers to a full moon at perigee. What is perigee? Well, our moon orbits Earth in an ellipse(oval) pattern, so there is a point where the moon is at it's most furthest and closest distances to Earth. When the moon's orbit is closest to the Earth it is at perigee, alternatively when the moon is at it's furthest point it's called the apogee. Thursday ni -

Under current California law, death can be determined by the loss of all brain function and in accordance with accepted medical standards. On Friday, acting city manager Carla Male said in a news release that the building suffered "extensive" water damage to three -

Kevin Stanfield's forecast: Heat continues for Calgary; storm risk Friday evening
Yesterday sure swung for the record-book fences. Almost made it, too! We finished the day at 31.7 C, having set a record of 32.2 C in both 1939 and before that in 1906. It’s unlikely that the heat warning in place snaps for very long, if at all over the coming days. While we’re certainly unlikely to see if leave through Friday or Saturday (temperatures are still parameterized for heat warnings there), the brief reprieve from 29 C or warmer highs doesn’t last all that long; anot -
