The removal of proof of vaccination requirements for Alberta businesses is receiving mixed reviews as the province moves toward a plan to completely lift all COVID-19 public health restrictions. Calgary Chamber of Commerce president and CEO Deborah Yedlin responded to Premier Jason Kenney’s announcement by noting consumer confidence may be reduced if patrons aren’t required to be vaccinated. “I think that's the big issue that we're worried about because businesses need ce -

Cornell Brown is back with the Calgary Stampeders coaching staff. Head coach Dave Dickenson announced Wednesday that Brown will round out his '22 staff as the Stampeders defensive line coach. It's the same position he held with Calgary under then head coach John Hufnagel from 2008-10. Hufnagel is now the Stampeders president/GM. And they're on! Rangeland Derby and grandstand show to return to Calgary Stampede
Following a two-year absence, chuckwagon racing is slated to return to Stampede Park this summer. Tickets are currently on sale for each night of this year's Rangeland Derby and Calgary Stampede Evening Show through the Calgary Stampede website. Chuckwagon racing has been a flagship event of the Calgary Stampede since its debut in 1923, but the COVID-19 pandemic led to two years without hooves and wagons on the track. In 2021, Calgary Stampede officials elected to cancel the event out of concern -

Mounties in central Alberta have released photos of a person connected to a homicide investigation in Red Deer, but refrained from calling the subject a person of interest or saying how they are believed to be connected. RCMP said they were looking for help identifying the person "in relation" to the killing of 30-year-old Reichel Alpeche on Feb. 1. The photos were taken in the lower Fairview area on Feb. 1 around 6 p.m., and then in the Nyberg Avenue area on Feb. 1 around 6:15 p.m. Anyone with -
Calgary's feral rabbits thriving in the southeast community of Seton
There is a squad of formerly domestic rabbits running wild in the southeast community of Seton. They're chewing, digging, hopping, burrowing and breeding like, well, rabbits. Local legend has it that three domestic bunnies were released in a field near the South Health Campus by a pet owner who got tired of them. In the years that have followed, those three have multiplied into more than 100. They've turned into an attraction for many families in the area. Chanae Smith brought her two young -

Alberta venture capital investment poised to break record again
In Canada's largest oil and gas producing province, investors who have been made wealthy by the energy sector are starting to open their pockets to a budding local tech industry. For years, Alberta's startup technology sector has complained of a lack of access to homegrown venture capital. Tech entrepreneurs in Alberta have historically had better luck going to Silicon Valley for funding than trying to raise money locally. But that's starting to change. Alberta's tech sector broke an all-time re -

A hiccup in Calgary's warm trend set to arrive Thursday
Warm air continues to push in today for southern Alberta. Wind gusts are expected to enhance late today as we carry into Thursday, but they'll moderate today in the 40-50 km/h zone for Calgary. With this, our temperature is paring back, slightly. The cloud layer will break, at times, but, similar to yesterday, it'll be a predominant feature on the day. We'll come close to breaking that 1926 14.4 C record high for this day in history, but by the end, it'll fall short. Overnight low temperatures b -

Alberta's vaccine passport gone, but border protesters plan to stay for long haul
Alberta's vaccine passport is gone but protesters are promising to hunker down for the long term on the highway leading to the province's main U.S. border crossing. Any thought that the announcement Tuesday by Premier Jason Kenney to scrap the public health measure at midnight and to remove most other rules in Alberta by March 1 would end the protest near Coutts, Alta., was quickly put to bed. "We're here for the big picture. It started with the border thing, it started with Trudeau and until Tr -

The Calgary Chamber of Commerce said the province's announcement that it was lifting some restrictions beginning at midnight "ignores the importance of consumer confidence in economic recovery." Traffic to and from the Canada-U.S. border crossing at Coutts, Alta. was again blocked by protesters on Tuesday evening.
