Calgary family's house of Halloween horrors helps benefit the food bank
Halloween is just over a week away and many homes in the city of Calgary are decorating for the occasion. However, few are going as far with their displays as the Harrop family. They've decked out their home, at 3134 Douglasdale Boulevard S.E., with all sorts of ghouls, skeletons and creatures with the goal of making it the scariest house on the block. The Harrops say they've been perfecting the display for about seven years, though they took last year off because of the pandemic.Dad Shane Harro -
'Scary' supply chain issues are even impacting Halloween costumes
For those celebrating Halloween this year, it may be one of the scariest parts of the festivities: many retailers are scrambling for stock this year, and those who do have costumes and decorations are charging a lot more. Recent supply chain issues have impacted so many facets of Canadian life, and Halloween is no different. A cautious 2020 left many inside and sales low across the board. But now that many feel comfortable celebrating Halloween again, demand is skyrocketing. That's caught many s -

An American woman had COVID-19 for a year. This is what doctors learned
An American woman who previously beat cancer had COVID-19 for a year, doctors say, in a case study they hope will help scientists understand how immunocompromised people are affected by the virus. In a pre-print report on medRxiv that has yet to be peer-reviewed entitled “Year-long COVID-19 infection reveals within-host evolution of SARS-CoV-2 in a patient with B cell depletion,” researchers and doctors document their findings from treating the patient at the National Institutes of H -

Film crew voiced complaints before fatal on-set shooting
Alec Baldwin fatally shot a cinematographer on a New Mexico film set with a gun a crew member had assured the actor was safe, a tragic mistake that came hours after some workers walked off the job to protest conditions and production issues. An assistant director, Dave Halls, grabbed a prop gun off a cart at a desert movie ranch and handed it to Baldwin during a Thursday rehearsal for the Western film "Rust," according to court records made public Friday. "Cold gun," Halls yelled, declaring the -
Alec Baldwin was told gun was 'cold' before movie set shooting
As a film crew and actors in Western garb prepared to rehearse a scene inside a wooden, chapel-like building on a desert movie ranch outside Santa Fe, assistant director Dave Halls stepped outside and grabbed a prop gun off a cart. He walked back in and handed it to the film's star, Alec Baldwin, assuring him it was safe to use because it didn't have live ammo. "Cold gun," Halls yelled. It wasn't, according to court records made public Friday. Instead, when Baldwin pulled the trigger Thursday, h -
