Skateboarding turning into popular sport for Calgary girls
It's one of those activities that any guy with a little courage and talent could try out, but these days skateboard coach Becca Ballantyne is seeing a new trend: more girls taking up the sport. "Gone are the days of this is a boys sport or this is a girls sport," said Ballantyne. "I remember growing up and I was one of the only girls out at the skate park with my brother and his friends and I was like this is kind of intimidating." "Now," she added, "you look around and there's mostly girls here -

The report examined housing and mortgage trends in 10 cities across the country. To save up enough for a down payment for an average home in Canada, it would take just short of six years – o -

Indigenous minister worries lifting COVID-19 restrictions could bring fourth wave
Indigenous Services Minister Marc Miller says he is concerned provinces that are lifting COVID-19 restrictions could lead to a Delta-driven fourth wave among Indigenous people. Miller says many areas of the country opened too quickly last year during the second wave and it was "dangerous and devastating to many Indigenous communities." "It's of great concern to me," Miller said Tuesday in an interview with The Canadian Press. Prairie provinces, where there are high populations of Indigenous peop -

Nurses union plans information pickets at Alberta hospitals on Aug. 11
Nurses in Alberta will hold information pickets outside hospitals and health care centres next week to speak out against proposed wage rollbacks and other changes. The province has proposed a three per cent wage reduction, however when combined with other rollbacks – the elimination of the semi-annual lump sum payments, reduced shift and weekend premiums – the nurses union contends it would equal about five per cent. The pickets by United Nurses of Alberta are planned for Aug. 11. "A -

Shower potential common in Calgary's 5-day forecast
Let's put the record book aside for a few days, shall we? Calgary has already set an all-time record for the warmest low temperature:Two nights ago, we smashed that record. Then, Tuesday morning, we tied the third-place spot. If I can argue for something more equal, it would behoove our forecast to at least return to normal. We have only a few days to wait. The high pressure region that caused air to sink over us is finally, finally moving on. The guiding element was that Gulf of Alaska low from -
Provinces begin to unveil pandemic policy changes, back-to-school plans
