Canada’s policy time bomb: Rising home prices and homelessness
When you watch the news or read the latest macroeconomic data, things in Canada seem good. Unemployment remains near historic lows, interest rates are under control and Canada is back on the list of the top 10 largest economies in the world. Sounds pretty good. How is it that even with all this good news Canadians remain anxious about our economic state of affairs? Research suggests that there is a fundamental disconnect between the macroeconomic data and how people feel. Only a little more than -

UCP government to ease restrictions on wooden buildings in Alberta
Construction companies will be able to go twice as high with new wooden buildings in the province, thanks to the United Conservative Party government's decision to change the building code. Currently, Alberta and national building codes only allow wood-building construction projects to reach six storeys, but the new code, expected to come into effect later this year, will increase that to 12 storeys. Officials say Alberta is the first province in the country to allow the practice province-wide. -

'This is huge': Locust swarms destroy crops in East Africa
The hum of millions of locusts on the move is broken by the screams of farmers and the clanging of pots and pans. The worst outbreak of desert locusts in Kenya in 70 years has seen hundreds of millions of the bugs swarm into the East African nation from Somalia and Ethiopia.
