Stamps player bringing out his inner Joker
Robertson Daniel is taking on a new identity as Heath Ledger’s vision of the Joker from The Dark Knight. The defensive back for the Calgary Stampeders was spotted with face paint during last week’s game against the Ottawa Redblacks that was a clear homage to how the late actor appeared in the blockbuster film. "I’m a big Joker fan, I’ve been a big Joker fan since I was a kid," said Daniel. It's no problem to Stampeders' head coach Dave Dickenson, who believes as long as D -

Summer camp for children with rare speech disorder
Dozens of kids with a rare speech disorder are meeting up at a special camp, created to help them after they struggled in silence at other camps. The illness, called apraxia, impacts one out of every thousand children, making it very difficult for them to communicate with others. The signals from their brain that plan what muscles movements in their mouth are needed to produce clear speech get mixed up, so when they talk it doesn’t sound like words. Four years ago, Natasha Kostenuk had a h -

Sobeys to remove plastic bags from all stores next year as grocers go green
Shoppers at Sobeys Inc. grocery stores will soon need to bring their own totes or lug their purchases home in paper bags as the chain moves to phase out plastic bags by February 2020. Canadians go through hundreds of millions of single-use plastic bags at grocery stores each year, and the chains -- most of which charge a nominal fee for plastic bags --are facing pressure from increasingly eco-conscious consumers to do more to eliminate their plastic-centric packaging. Bank of Canada unlikely to follow any Fed interest rate cut: experts
The U.S. Federal Reserve is widely expected to cut its interest rate Wednesday for the first time in over a decade - a big step, though one unlikely to pull Canada's central bank out of its holding pattern any time soon. The Bank of Canada sent signals earlier this month that the Canadian economy is very much on its own path and, at least in the short term, has no reason to follow any move by the Fed to lower rates. One thing appears certain - Bank of Canada governor Stephen Poloz and his team w -
