Right whale likely died off Canada after collision with boat: official
A right whale found dead in Canada's Gulf of St. Lawrence is likely to have died in a collision with a ship, officials say -- a worrying conclusion as experts fear for the future of the critically endangered species. Preliminary findings from a necropsy on Comet, one of six dead whales found since the start of June, are "highly compatible with death due to blunt trauma, consistent with vessel strike," Fisheries and Oceans Canada said. Final results of the necropsy will be available "in the comin -

Canada Day: How Canada's national birthday as we know it came to be
Many hail July 1 as Canada Day, others may hearken back to when the nation's birthday was labelled Dominion Day, and some may wish to ignore it altogether, just like those who refused to celebrate the country's founding for the first dozen years of its existence. No matter the approach, the official celebrations of Canada's creation are arguably more controversial than many realize. Matthew Hayday, a University of Guelph history professor who has studied the celebrations through the years, said -
