LONDON -- The British government on Wednesday downplayed a report that its chief Brexit negotiator said lawmakers will have to choose between backing Prime Minister Theresa May's unpopular divorce deal and a delay to the U.K.'s exit from the European Union. An ITV News correspondent, Angus Walker, said he overheard negotiator Olly Robbins in a Brussels bar saying the government would ask Parliament in late March to back her agreement, rejected by lawmakers last month, or seek an extension to the -
Ex-gymnastics coach Brubaker found not guilty
SARNIA, Ont. -- A former high-ranking gymnastics coach was acquitted of sexual assault and sexual exploitation Wednesday after the judge presiding over his trial found serious issues with the police investigation into his case. Dave Brubaker, the former head coach of the women's national team, was accused of sexually assaulting a young gymnast years ago and had vehemently denied the allegations against him. The trial heard that the sole officer investigating the coach was related to the complain -

Liberal MPs use majority to limit scope of House probe into SNC-Lavalin affair
OTTAWA – The Liberal members of the House of Commons Justice Committee have voted in favour of studying the ongoing SNC-Lavalin affair and alleged PMO political interference, but have used their majority to limit the scope of the probe. The Liberal MPs on the committee superseded the opposition motion that would have had granted the ability to dig deeper into whether the prime minister or anyone in his office tried to pressure the then-attorney general Jody Wilson-Raybould to abandon the c -

REGINA -- A lawyer for Saskatchewan's attorney general says the provincial government does not dispute climate change. "This is not a case about whether climate change is real or not. "The government recognizes that climate change is a serious issue that has to addressed and that effe -
Lawyers to argue merits of carbon tax as Saskatchewan challenge heads to court
REGINA -- Lawyers are expected to pack a Regina courtroom today to argue the constitutionality of a federally imposed carbon tax. A panel of five judges is to listen to arguments from both the Saskatchewan and federal governments as well as from 16 interveners on both sides of the dispute. Saskatchewan opposes the federal government's plan to force a carbon tax on the province and plans to argue it is unconstitutional because it's not applied evenly in all jurisdictions. Ottawa says the constitu -
'Are provinces sovereign?:' Saskatchewan meets Ottawa in carbon tax challenge
REGINA -- Lawyers for Saskatchewan and its allies warn that Ottawa's justification for imposing a carbon price on consumers will erode provincial sovereignty under the Constitution. "Giving Canada this degree of regulatory authority over (greenhouse gas emissions) will result in the limitless, intrusive federal regulatory capability over provincial affairs," William Gould, for New Brunswick's attorney general's office, an intervener in the case, said Wednesday. "It only begins here." Saskatchewa -
No escape? El Chapo likely off to 'prison of all prisons'
NEW YORK -- In the world of corrections, there are inmates who pose security risks, and then there's "El Chapo." Drug lord Joaquin Guzman has an unparalleled record of jailbreaks, having escaped two high-security Mexican prisons before his ultimate capture and extradition to the United States. So with Guzman convicted Tuesday of drug trafficking and staring at an expected life sentence, where will the U.S. imprison a larger-than-life kingpin with a Houdini-like tendency to slip away? Experts say -
