OTTAWA — The Federal Court of Appeal has dismissed a City of Ottawa request to overturn a lower court decision about property payments on federally owned buildings.

Ottawa Redblacks sign veteran receiver Lewis through 2027 season
OTTAWA — The Ottawa Redblacks signed veteran American receiver Eugene Lewis to a contract extension Thursday that keeps him with the CFL club through the 2027 season.
Lewis, 32, was entering the final year of his deal before signing the extension.
He had 75 catches for 1,012 yards and six touchdowns last season, his first with Ottawa. He cracked the 1,000-yard plateau for the second straight year and fourth time in his eight-year CFL career.

TORONTO — Ciara Carl and Brian Lankton have been hired by the Toronto Tempo as assistant coaches, the WNBA team announced Thursday.Carl and Lankton each bring over a decade of experience across the NBA, G-League, WNBA, and NCAA, and will report to Tempo head coach Sandy Brondello.

Teen charged with manslaughter in overdose death of 16-year-old girl in B.C.
PRINCE GEORGE — Mounties in Prince George, B.C., say a 17-year-old has been charged with manslaughter in the death of a 16-year-old girl who suffered a fatal overdose in 2024.
They say their investigation began when frontline officers were called to a home in the College Heights area around 10 p.m. on June 26, 2024, for the girl who had been found unconscious.
Police say the girl later died in hospital and was found to have high levels of fentanyl in her blood.

Extortion-related shooting is fourth in B.C.’s Lower Mainland since last week
