UFV looks to develop campus land for community-building, revenue sources
CHILLIWACK — The University of the Fraser Valley (UFV) is looking ahead to a future of bustling campus environments by building on its existing, underused land.
UFV Properties Trust, or the aptly named Campus Communities, is eyeing possible projects on its properties on Canada Education Park in Chilliwack and the UDistrict in Abbotsford.
The Trust was established in 2023 to develop UFV-owned land through 99-year ground leases with developers who would then lease the sites to customers.

MIAMI — Canada's Victoria Mboko is off to the third round of women's singles at the Miami Open.
Mboko, the No. 10 seed from Burlington, Ont., defeated Russian Anastasia Zakharova 6-1, 7-5 on Saturday. On Friday, Mboko, who won the National Bank Open in Montreal last year, needed only 59 minutes to register 6-2, 6-0 victory over Russia's Anna Blinkova.

Chilliwack RCMP seek 40-year-old missing for over a week
CHILLIWACK — Police in Chilliwack are asking the public for help in finding a man who has been missing since last week.
RCMP say 40-year-old Jordan Boyle was reported missing on Friday, March 13, and has still not been found despite police efforts on several leads and possible sightings.
Boyle is described as Caucasian, standing at 6’3” and 210 pounds, with blue eyes and short brown hair.
Chilliwack RCMP adds that there is nothing to indicate foul play at this time.

British Columbia's river forecaster has downgraded the flood watch advisory that had spanned the province's south coast as rain deluged the region last week.
A bulletin from the B.C. River Forecast Centre says the multi-day atmospheric river system brought a range of 40 to 300 millimetres of precipitation to the region.It says the heaviest rainfall was recorded around Howe Sound, the North Shore and Coast mountains and the Fraser Valley.

ABBOTSFORD — A Cape Breton man who was convicted of murdering his roommate and partner has died in a medium-security federal prison of what officials say were natural causes.
Correctional Services Canada (CSC) says Charles Wheeliker, an inmate at Matsqui Institution, died on Tuesday, March 17, while in custody.
The 59-year-old inmate had been serving a life sentence that began on December 17, 2013, after he pleaded guilty to the second-degree murder of Sydney man Troy Francis Johnston.

SURREY — Investigators are looking into a shots-fired incident that sent one man to hospital on Friday morning.
At around 6 a.m., the Surrey Police Service (SPS) responded and searched around Bear Creek Park and nearby homes near the 13700 block of 88 Avenue.
