OTTAWA — The period for gun owners to declare interest in a federal program offering compensation for turning in or permanently deactivating their guns begins today.
Since May 2020, Ottawa has outlawed about 2,500 types of guns, including the AR-15, on the basis they belong only on the battlefield.

A day after Gabriel Diallo of Montreal and Liam Draxl of Newmarket, Ont., lost their opening-round singles matches, Felix Auger-Aliassime was one and done Down Under as well.

Flames trade defenceman Andersson to Golden Knights for Whitecloud, draft picks
CALGARY — The Calgary Flames have traded veteran defenceman Rasmus Andersson to the Vegas Golden Knights for defenceman Zach Whitecloud, defensive prospect Abram Wiebe, a first-round draft pick in 2027 and a conditional second-round pick in 2028 that becomes a first-rounder should Vegas win the Stanley Cup this year.

Fire crews save house after explosion, fire in West Kelowna
