RENTON, Wash. (AP) — The U.S. Coast Guard suspended the search Monday afternoon for nine people, including a child, who were missing after a floatplane crashed in the waters of Puget Sound northwest of Seattle.
The body of a 10th person was recovered by a good Samaritan on Sunday after the crash was reported at 3:11 p.m., Coast Guard spokesperson William Colclough said Monday.

VANCOUVER — The hearing to determine if a man accused of killing RCMP Const. Shaelyn Yang is fit to stand trial has begun in the BC Supreme Court in Vancouver.

FRASER VALLEY — A number of B.C. communities sweat out some new daily high records this week, including in the Fraser Valley.
Agassiz reported 16.1 C on Thursday (Feb. 6), more than two degrees warmer than its 1984 record of 14 C.
Abbotsford was also up by 1.3 C from its previous daily high in 1984 at 16.4 degrees.
The Hope area hit a marginal record of 12.8 C, beating its 1941 numbers of 12.1 C.

CHILLIWACK — January labour figures from Statistics Canada are painting a more optimistic monthly picture across B.C.
Abbotsford added roughly 1,700 jobs, while unemployment dipped from 6.8 per cent in December to 6.3 last month.

Some U.S. alcohol to return to Quebec stores before quality drops, minister says
MONTREAL — Quebec's finance minister says some U.S. alcohol will be returning to the province's liquor store shelves before the quality drops.
Eric Girard says the only products authorized to be sold are those which could start to deteriorate by March 2027.
The sale is expected to generate up to $8.6 million, which will be handed over to the province's food banks.

Driver ticketed after going more than double the speed limit in Langley
LANGLEY — Langley police have stopped a driver and their metal steed after speeding through a neighbourhood this week.
On February 4, RCMP stopped a vehicle travelling 129 km/hr in a 50 km/hr zone in Willoughby.
The driver received a ticket for excessive speed, and the vehicle was impounded for one week under the Motor Vehicle Act.

Unemployment rate drops to 6.5% in January despite 25,000 job losses: StatCan
OTTAWA — Statistics Canada says the economy shed 25,000 jobs in January but a drop in the number of people looking for work drove the unemployment rate down to 6.5 per cent in the month.
January’s job losses mostly came from the private sector and part-time work, and were largely concentrated among women aged 25 to 54.
