BURNABY — An 18-year-old man is wanted on a charge of assault after a shooting last week in Metro Vancouver sent one person to hospital.
Burnaby RCMP say the man is also facing charges of discharge of a firearm with intent and possession of a prohibited firearm.
Police say the shooting happened on Dec. 19 near the intersection of Phillips Avenue and Woodbrook Place in North Burnaby.
A man with gunshot wounds was taken to hospital, and no further details on his condition were provided.

BURNABY — A manhunt is underway for a Burnaby teenager who allegedly shot a man in Burnaby in what police are describing as a targeted event.
The BC Prosecution Service approved charges against 18-year-old Ronin Tajali on Christmas Day. Tajali is facing charges of discharging a firearm with intent, aggravated assault and possession of a loaded prohibited or restricted firearm.

TORONTO — Toronto police are investigating after multiple mezuzahs were stolen outside Jewish homes for the second time this month.
Officers were called just before 12:30 p.m. on Christmas Day to a condo building in the Finch Avenue East and Bayview Avenue area, where police said mezuzahs had been taken from three units.
A mezuzah is a parchment inscribed with scripture that many Jewish people affix to the doorpost of their home.

Large flag that was draped outside Manitoba’s legislature is back with football club
WINNIPEG — A large Canadian flag that hung on the front of the Manitoba legislature has been returned to the Winnipeg Blue Bombers football team.
The provincial government borrowed the nine-by-18-metre flag in March and draped it above the legislature's main entrance as a symbol of resistance in the trade war with the United States.

IIO investigating Christmas Day fatality in Surrey
SURREY — B.C.’s Independent Investigations Office (IIO) is investigating a fatal motor vehicle incident involving Surrey police.
In a news release, the IIO states the Surrey Police Service informed their investigators that the collision occurred around 6 a.m. on Christmas Day. Officers were leaving a gas station in the 10800 block of 132 Street. According to Surrey Police, a woman was struck during the incident.

SOUTH SURREY — A pedestrian has been killed in a Christmas morning crash involving a police vehicle in Surrey, B.C.
Police say in a statement that the collision happened at about 6 a.m. in the 10800 block of 132 Street, adding that a Surrey police vehicle struck the female pedestrian who was then taken to hospital.
The victim later died at hospital, and Surrey police have not released any further details due to B.C.'s Independent Investigations Office taking over the case.
