MONTREAL — The Quebec government is evacuating patients from a health facility in the province’s Far North because of persistent water shortages in a community.
The Health Department says two patients were flown 1,600 kilometres south to the Montreal area from the Inuit village of Puvirnituq late Thursday, with more expected to arrive.
The Inuulitsivik health centre’s emergency room remains open.Residents of Puvirnituq, in the Nunavik region, have been without consistent water

The Maple Leafs head coach will dress forwards Calle Jarnkrok and Pontus Holmberg for Game 6 of their second-round playoff series against the Florida Panthers with Toronto facing elimination down 3-2 on Friday.
Jarnkrok and Holmberg took a seat in Game 5 for Nick Robertson and David Kampf in the Leafs’ disastrous 6-1 loss Wednesday that pushed them to the brink of elimination.

OTTAWA — Corus is urging the CRTC to require traditional broadcasters and online players to pay the same amount into the Canadian content system.

Overnight Surrey house fire spreads to neighbouring homes, police investigating cause
SURREY — Police in Surrey, B.C., are investigating an early morning house fire in the city’s Bridgeview neighbourhood.
They say officers responded to a report of a structure fire around 1:35 a.m. in the area of 127 Street and 113A Avenue.
Police say firefighters extinguished the blaze, but remained on scene around 8:15 a.m.

Jury dismissed in sexual assault trial of five ex-world junior hockey players
Jurors in the sexual assault trial of five former members of Canada’s world junior hockey team have been discharged.
Ontario Superior Court Justice Maria Carroccia did not give jurors reasons for her decision.

OTTAWA — Prime Minister Mark Carney is flying to Rome today to attend the inaugural mass of Pope Leo XIV on Sunday.
