OTTAWA — Elections Canada says the result of a recount in the federal riding of Terrebonne is final, despite a misprint that led to one special ballot being returned to sender.
Elections Canada says there was an error on the envelope used to mail a special ballot from Terrebonne, a Quebec riding the Liberals won by a single vote after a recount.

The Philadelphia Flyers hired Rick Tocchet as their coach Wednesday, hoping his return to the franchise will push them out of an extended rebuild and into playoff contention.
Tocchet spent 2 1/2 seasons in Vancouver and won the Jack Adams Award as NHL coach of the year in 2023-24 for guiding the Canucks to a 50-win season and first place in the Pacific Division. B.C. teacher charged with sexual exploitation of students
SAANICH — Police in Saanich, B.C., say a 36-year-old teacher in the Greater Victoria School District is accused of engaging in sexual interactions with students.

Canadian man sentenced to 2 1/2 years in U.S. Social Security fraud
FAIRBANKS — The United States Attorney’s Office in Alaska says a Canadian man has been sentenced to 2 1/2 years in prison and ordered to repay $420,000 he stole in social security benefits from the U.S. government over a 30-year period.
It says 77-year-old Ellis Kingsep was legally living in the United States and had devised “an elaborate scheme” where he collected benefits payments that were sent by the Social Security Administration intended for his mother.
