SKAGIT VALLEY (HOPE) — The B.C. government says Silver Skagit Road south of Hope has now reopened to the public as of Tuesday, April 15, but construction will continue for roughly 45 kilometres of the road that suffered extensive flood damage in 2021.
According to an update from the province, remedial work is ongoing along the route and will continue for the 2025 construction season to repair the remaining 13 flood-damaged sites along the route. Construction will continue along the corrido

Ontario to loosen internal trade, remove barriers on alcohol and labour mobility
TORONTO — Ontario is set to table legislation to make trade between provinces easier, as a way to shore up the economy against the effects of American tariffs.

MONTREAL — A 16-year-old boy who was stabbed Tuesday evening in Montreal has died.
Police confirmed his death today — the city’s eighth reported homicide in 2025.

Bank of Canada holds steady on rate decision amid trade war
OTTAWA — The Bank of Canada has decided to keep its current interest rate in place amid looming trade war impacts to the economy.
The central bank cut its policy rate by a quarter point to 2.75 per cent at its most recent decision in March.

LONDON (AP) — The Supreme Court ruled Wednesday that the U.K. equalities law defines a woman as someone born biologically female.
Justice Patrick Hodge said five judges at the court had ruled unanimously that “the terms ‘woman’ and ‘sex’ in the Equality Act refer to a biological woman.”
The ruling means that a transgender person with a certificate that recognizes them as female should not be considered a woman for equality purposes.
