HARRISON — Italian star Lorenzo Insigne returned to Toronto FC’s starting lineup Saturday after being frozen out for the first four games of the MLS season.
The 33-year-old winger was in the starting 11 for Toronto’s game at the New York Red Bulls. It marked his first competitive action since Oct. 5 when he made a 10-minute cameo off the bench in TFC’s 2024 season finale.

Rainfall warning issued for Metro Vancouver, parts of B.C.’s south coast
VANCOUVER — Heavy rain in the forecast is slated to pummel parts of British Columbia’s south coast, with some areas possibly getting as much as 130 millimetres.

VANCOUVER — Vancouver has recorded its first homicide of 2025 after a man was found dead in the city’s Downtown Eastside.
Vancouver Police say officers were called to Crab Park at about 8:30 a.m. after someone reported a dead body found on the beach.

ROME (AP) — Pope Francis will be released from the hospital on Sunday, after 38 days battling a life-threatening case of pneumonia in both lungs, his doctors said.
Gemelli medical director Dr. Sergio Alfieri said Francis will require at least two months of rest and rehabilitation as he continues recovering back at the Vatican.
Francis was admitted to Gemelli hospital on Feb. 14 after a bout of bronchitis worsened. He later developed a life-threatening case of pneumonia.

DUDINCE — Canadian race walker Evan Dunfee has set a world record in the 35 kilometres.
The 34-year-old from Richmond, B.C., shaved seven seconds off the previous record of two hours, 21 minutes 47 seconds held byJapan’s Masatora Kawano since last year.
Dunfee also knocked more than three minutes off his previous best time to win the World Athletics Race Walking Tour distance in Dudince, Slovakia.

Blue Jays outfielder Varsho will open season on injured list after shoulder surgery
DUNEDIN, Fla. (AP) — Toronto Blue Jays centre-fielder Daulton Varsho, who is still recovering from shoulder surgery, will open the season on the injured list.
Blue Jays manager John Schneider told reporters Saturday that Varsho needs more time to recover from right rotator cuff surgery in September. Varsho has appeared in games as a designated hitter this spring, hitting .276 with four homers.

Liberals to expand eligibility for dental care program
OTTAWA — The federal health minister says that as of May, all eligible Canadians will be able to apply for the federal dental care program.
The program was launched initially for seniors in December 2023 and has been expanded in phases to cover children and people with disabilities.
In May, the program will open to other Canadians who have household incomes of less than $90,000 and don’t have private insurance.
The government says coverage will start as early as June 1.
