LANGLEY — Langley RCMP say an 82-year-old woman who was reported missing in October 2024, has been found dead. Authorities say no foul play is suspected in the matter.

CALGARY — Canola farmers on the Prairies are bracing for impact as China prepares to impose hefty tariffs on the industry.

Quebec says it will allow restaurants to charge people for no-shows
MONTREAL — The Quebec government says it’s drafting a bill to allow restaurants to charge people who reserve a table but don’t show up and don’t cancel ahead of time.

Statistics Canada says population rose to 41,528,680 at Jan. 1 as growth slowed
OTTAWA — Statistics Canada says the population grew to 41,528,680 people as of Jan. 1 as the pace of growth continued to slow after peaking in the third quarter of 2023.
The total number of people was up 63,382 compared with Oct. 1, 2024, for a quarterly growth rate of 0.2 per cent.
The agency says it was the slowest growth rate since the fourth quarter of 2020, when border restrictions related to the pandemic were in place.

Federal government promises $2.55B in low-cost loans to build Toronto rental homes
TORONTO — The federal government is promising billions in low-cost financing to help build thousands of rental homes in Toronto, including more than a thousand affordable units.

Ottawa caps non-sufficient fund fees and places other limits starting March 2026
OTTAWA — Ottawa is limiting the fees that banks can charge customers who don’t have enough in their accounts to cover a cheque or other pre-authorized charge.
The changes included in an order-in-council last week will take effect starting March 12, 2026.
The new rules cap non-sufficient funds fees at $10 for personal deposit accounts and prohibit charging more than one NSF fee in a period of two business days.

TORONTO — Canada will play Ukraine and the Ivory Coast in June at Toronto’s BMO Field in a new four-team men’s soccer tournament called the Canadian Shield.
