Canada has been drawn alongside Puerto Rico, Panama and Nicaragua in Group B at the CONCACAF Women’s U‑17 Championship.
The 12-team regional tournament, which is divided into three groups, is set to run March 31 to April 6 and will send four teams — the three group winners and the best second-place finisher — to the FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup scheduled for Oct. 17 to Nov. 8 in Morocco.
Panama will host Canada’s group.

SAINTE-ANNE-DES-PLAINES, Que. — Correctional Service Canada says an 85-year-old convicted killer has escaped from a minimum security prison north of Montreal.
Officials say Ricardo Vilches was not present during the noon head count today at the Archambault Institution in Ste-Anne-des-Plaines, Que.
Prison officials say an arrest warrant has been issued for Vilches and Quebec provincial police have been notified.
Vilches is currently serving an indeterminate sentence for second-degree murder -
Two members of Regina Rams arrested after police make ‘significant’ fentanyl seizure
REGINA — Two university football players in Regina have been arrested after police seized what they’re calling a “significant” amount of fentanyl.
Twenty-four-year-old Tarick Polius and 21-year-old Michael Jourdan, both from Toronto, are among a group of five people facing drug charges.
The University of Regina says Polius and Jourdan are enrolled there and played for the Rams during the 2024 season.
The school says they have been suspended from the football team.

CLEVELAND (AP) — Lawrence J. Dolan, owner of Cleveland’s major league baseball team since 2000, has died at age 94.
The Cleveland Guardians put out a statement Monday saying Dolan died Sunday night of natural causes.
Dolan, a Cleveland native, purchased the team from Richard Jacobs in 2000 for $320 million. The Dolan family is the longest-tenured owners in Cleveland franchise history.

HALIFAX — Nova Scotia’s premier has retreated from a contentious bill that would have allowed his government to fire the province’s auditor general without cause.
Tim Houston says he no longer supports the bill’s amendments, which would have also permitted ministers to veto the release of auditor reports.
