TORONTO — The CFL Players’ Association says it “strongly protests” the CFL’s suspension of defensive back Loucheiz Purifoy for violating its drug policy.
Hours before the CFL announced it was suspending Purifoy for two games, the Edmonton Elks released the nine-year veteran after two seasons with the club.

VANCOUVER — A Finnish developer wants to bring a 250-room floating hotel into Vancouver’s harbour.
A statement from Sunborn International Holding says the proposed hotel would be 136 metres long and 19.5 metres high, spread out over six floors and connected to the Vancouver Convention Centre by a ramp from the seawall walkway.
The company says the hotel could be open by 2027, subject to government approvals, and that it has begun the process of applying for rezoning from the city.

Federal immigration department to cut more than 3,300 jobs, unions say
OTTAWA — Two federal public service unions say the Immigration Department is set to cut 3,300 jobs.
The Public Service Alliance of Canada and the Canada Employment and Immigration Union say in a joint statement that the department has not said who will be affected by the cuts.
The unions say more information is expected in mid-February but that the cuts were brought up in a union-management meeting before staff were notified.

Structure fire in Mission Sunday night sends 1 to hospital
MISSION — Mission Fire Rescue Service says one person has been hospitalized after a structure fire Sunday night in Mission.
According to a statement, firefighters were called to a home on Olson Road shortly before 9 p.m. Sunday. The first responding fire truck witnessed heavy smoke and flames coming from the front of the building.
