COLWOOD, B.C. — The suburban city of Colwood, B.C., on Vancouver Island, says it has hired its first family doctor in a new approach to easing the community’s shortage of physicians.
Colwood Mayor Ken Kobayashi says in a statement that it has initiated a first-in-Canada pilot project where it recruits family doctors and puts them on the city payroll, offering full medical benefits, vacation and a pension.

Tim Hortons Field to be rebranded when 10-year naming rights agreement ends
HAMILTON — The home of the CFL’s Hamilton Tiger-Cats will soon have a new name.
Hamilton Sports Group announced Wednesday that Tim Hortons Field, the stadium where the Ticats and Forge FC of soccer’s Canadian Premier League play, will be rebranded with a new sponsor after a 10-year naming rights agreement with the restaurant chain runs out at the end of the year.
A new sponsor was not disclosed in Wednesday’s announcement.

VANCOUVER — Metro Vancouver’s projected population growth is accelerating, with an average of 50,000 new residents expected per year.

CALGARY — Hockey officials are whistling more penalties for discriminatory taunts, insults and intimidation on the ice, according to a Hockey Canada report.
The national governing body of hockey says penalties called under its discrimination rule increased 41 per cent during the 2023-24 season, to 2.6 per 1,000 players from 1.9 in 2022-23.
