EDMONTON — A lawyer fighting a new Alberta law affecting transgender youth says he’s disappointed Premier Danielle Smith will use the Charter’s notwithstanding clause if need be to shield the changes from legal challenge.
“It’s hard to choose the right words. It’s cynical, incredibly disturbing and an inappropriate action by a leader,” Bennett Jensen of Egale Canada said Monday in an interview.

WNBA to hold first regular-season game outside the U.S. in Vancouver
VANCOUVER — Vancouver will host the first WNBA regular-season game played outside the United States next year when the Atlanta Dream and the Seattle Storm face off at Rogers Arena.

VANCOUVER — The Canadian men’s team will be part of the Vancouver Sevens, competing in an invitational event in conjunction with the HSBC SVNS stop in February.

VANCOUVER — A search is ongoing for a person believed to have been caught in a mudslide that hit their home and closed British Columbia’s Sea to Sky Highway over the weekend.RCMP say emergency crews recovered a body of one of the two residents of the home on Sunday, and are actively searching for the second person.
