SANTA CLARA, Calif. (AP) — San Francisco 49ers star running back Christian McCaffrey will not need surgery on his injured right knee but he will miss the rest of the regular season.
Coach Kyle Shanahan said Monday that McCaffrey will be out at least six weeks after injuring his posterior cruciate ligament in a loss to the Buffalo Bills on Sunday night. GRENOBLE, France (AP) — World pairs champions Deanna Stellato-Dudek and Maxime Deschamps of Canada withdrew from the prestigious Grand Prix Final on Monday because Deschamps is recovering from an illness and unable to compete.
Rebecca Ghilardi and Filippo Ambrosini of Italy will replace them. The select competition begins Thursday at the Patinoire Polesud with the pairs short program, and the medals will be decided after the pairs free skate on Friday night.

OTTAWA — Closing arguments have begun in the trial of an Ottawa man who Crown prosecutors allege helped make neo-Nazi propaganda and recruitment videos.
Patrick Macdonald, 27, has pleaded not guilty to charges of terrorism and hate speech.

Pandemic business loan program lacked ‘value for money’: auditor general
OTTAWA — The auditor general says the small business loan program the federal government rolled out during the COVID-19 pandemic wasn’t managed in a cost-effective way.

Searchers begin sifting at landfill for remains of slain First Nations women
WINNIPEG — Manitoba Premier Wab Kinew says excavation and sifting have started in a section of a landfill believed to hold the remains of two slain First Nations women.
