CHISINAU, Moldova (AP) — Moldova’s pro-Western President Maia Sandu has won a second term in a pivotal presidential runoff against a Russia-friendly opponent, in a race that was overshadowed by claims of Russian interference, voter fraud, and intimidation in the European Union candidate country.

Utility says power back on in Kimmirut after days-lon outage
KIMMIRUT, Nvt. — Power has been restored to a Nunavut hamlet on Baffin Island following a days-long outage that began on Thursday.
Quillik Energy Corporation, the utility which serves Kimmirut, stated in a social media update on Sunday afternoon that power is now back on in the community.
It says buildings with backup generation will remain isolated until additional repairs are made, and that crews continue to monitor the situation.

NEW YORK (AP) — Kenya’s Sheila Chepkirui won the women’s race at the New York City Marathon on Sunday, pulling away from defending champion Hellen Obiri in the final mile.
It was Chepkirui’s first time running the New York race after starting to run marathons in 2022. She finished the race in 2 hours, 24 minutes, 35 seconds. Obiri finished nearly 15 seconds behind.

Six cars set ablaze in suspicious fire in Montreal parking lot
MONTREAL — Montreal police say six cars were set on fire in a commercial parking lot early Sunday morning in the city’s Plateau-Mont-Royal borough.Spokesperson Anthony Dorelas says police received a call around 5:30 a.m. about an arson involving several vehicles in an industrial area.Police and firefighters arrived on scene to find six cars ablaze, five of which were totally destroyed.Dorelas says the fire is suspicious and police are investigating, but no arrests have yet been made. -
