OTTAWA — A veteran of Canada’s national security systems has been named the new head of the national spy agency.
Prime Minister Justin Trudeau has appointed Daniel Rogers as the new director of the Canadian Security Intelligence Service.
He will take over the role on Oct. 28.
Rogers replaces David Vigneault, who retired from the spy service after seven years to join the U.S. intelligence firm Strider.
He served most recently as deputy national security and intelligence adviser to the

CHILLIWACK — Two Chilliwack Fire Department engines were dispatched to Elim Village in Garrison Tuesday morning (Oct. 15) for a residential smoke alarm, prompting the evacuation of the Redwood building for resident safety.
According to scanner traffic, Chilliwack firefighters were paged for a residential smoke alarm at approximately 9:26 a.m. at 45460 Chehalis Drive, where the Redwood building is located.

OTTAWA — Statistics Canada is expected to publish its inflation reading for the month of September today.

OTTAWA — Canadians are set to receive carbon pricing rebates Tuesday, as the Liberals defend one of their most embattled policies.
The government says this is the first time all banks will label the payment as the Canada Carbon Rebate, after years of inconsistent and vague phrasing on bank statements.
