SURREY, B.C. — NDP Leader David Eby is promising to support police in British Columbia in their work to keep illegal guns off the streets and protect communities.

CHILLIWACK — Chilliwack firefighters from multiple fire halls were paged Sunday morning for a fire at a 104-year-old home on Second Avenue.
Chilliwack Fire Department crews were paged at about 7 a.m. Sunday for the report of a structure fire at an abandoned home.

CHILLIWACK – The Chilliwack Chiefs split a two-game home-and-home series with BCHL Coastal East leaders, the Coquitlam Express, Friday and Saturday.

DEIR AL-BALAH, Gaza Strip (AP) — An apparent Israeli airstrike early Sunday killed at least 18 people in central Gaza, Palestinian medical officials said.
The strike hit a mosque sheltering displaced people near the al-Aqsa Martyrs hospital in the town of Deir al-Balah, the hospital said in a statement.

TORONTO — Auston Matthews scored to tie the game and set up John Tavares’ winning goal in the Toronto Maple Leafs 3-2 win against the Detroit Red Wings in their final NHL pre-season outing on Saturday.

Man, 43, charged with second-degree murder in 2022 fatal Kelowna stabbing: RCMP
KELOWNA — RCMP say a 43-year-old man is facing a second-degree murder charge in a fatal stabbing that left another man dead in Kelowna, B.C., almost two years ago.
Police say they were called to a business in downtown Kelowna after receiving a report that a group of people were involved in an altercation on Oct. 9, 2022.

MAPLE RIDGE – Collision reconstruction investigators have determined that alcohol was not a factor after an SUV flew into the backyard of a Maple Ridge home early Friday afternoon.

CHILLIWACK — Police say traffic slowed to a crawl on Highway 1 near Herrling Island Saturday following a single-vehicle crash.
RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Brett Urano said a white SUV left the roadway just before 3 p.m. and crashed into a guardrail.
The driver was uninjured and refused aid from Chilliwack firefighters after exiting the SUV.
No other injuries were reported.
Urano said speed was a factor in the crash, and that an early probe is showing no signs of impairment.
