OTTAWA — New federal legislation introduced Wednesday aims to give the fire-ravaged Rocky Mountain town of Jasper, Alta., full authority over local land planning and development rather than Parks Canada.

Canadian Coast Guard crew member lost at sea off Newfoundland
ST. JOHN’S, N.L. — A crew member of a Canadian Coast Guard ship has been lost at sea off southern Newfoundland.
