TORONTO — Catcher Jake Rogers’ grand slam highlighted a six-run sixth inning to help the Detroit Tigers to a 7-3 win against the Toronto Blue Jays on Saturday.
Vladimir Guerrero went 3 for 4 and belted a two-run homer as part of a three-run sixth for Toronto (44-54).
But Rogers’ decisive blow delivered the Tigers (49-50) their 10th win in 12 outings and the first two games of the three-game set against Toronto before 38,583 at Rogers Centre.

DEIR AL-BALAH, Gaza (AP) — A media outlet controlled by Houthi rebels in Yemen is reporting intense airstrikes on the port city of Hodeidah and says it appears that Israel is behind them.
Al-Masirah TV says the strikes on storage facilities for oil and diesel at the port and on the local electricity company have caused deaths and injuries, but it gave no details.

ASHCROFT, B.C. — The entire village of Ashcroft and the Ashcroft Indian Band are on evacuation alert Friday (July 19), thanks to the approaching Shetland Creek wildfire.
Ashcroft Mayor Barbara Roden signed the alert status as of 12:00 noon Friday, declaring a local state of emergency in parallel.
Residents of areas under alert need to be ready to leave on very short notice.
Evacuation orders have also been expanded due to the looming threat.
