B.C. premier wants to better understand bail reform failing in woman’s murder
SURREY, B.C. — British Columbia’s premier says the province worked with the federal government to change its bail rules, so he is not sure why a man with a long and violent criminal history was released from jail weeks before the stabbing death of a woman in her Surrey, B.C., home.

Former federal consultant who overbilled government charged with fraud
OTTAWA — A former federal consultant has been charged with fraud for overbilling the government by $25,000.
The RCMP say Clara Elaine Visser faces one charge of fraud over $5,000, following an investigation first launched by Public Services and Procurement Canada three years ago.
The RCMP say the charge was laid based on evidence showing fraudulent time sheets were submitted between Jan. 1, 2020 and June 30, 2021.

CALGARY — A third animal has been euthanized at the Calgary Stampede’s rodeo competition.
The Stampede says a steer was injured Monday night in what it calls an unusual incident.
It says medical attention was provided, but a veterinarian made the humane decision to put down the steer.
A chuckwagon horse injured in a race Friday was also euthanized.
And another horse, ridden by an outrider during Saturday’s chuckwagon competition, was euthanized after it was injured.
