CAIRO (AP) — More than 1,000 people died during this year’s Hajj pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia as the faithful faced extreme high temperatures at Islamic holy sites in the desert kingdom, officials said Sunday.
More than half of the fatalities were people from Egypt, according to two officials in Cairo. Egypt revoked the licenses of 16 travel agencies that helped unauthorized pilgrims travel to Saudi Arabia, authorities said.

Thousands of racers take to the water as part of Vancouver Dragon Boat Festival
VANCOUVER — Racers took to the water for what organizers say is North America’s largest dragon boat festival in Vancouver.
More than 6,000 racers and 250 entries from across North America and Australia are expected to compete in the two-day event racing a special fleet of 12-metre, 250-kilogram boats for a variety of distances.

Pro-Palestinian protesters set up encampment in Montreal’s Victoria Square
MONTREAL — A new pro-Palestinian encampment has popped up in downtown Montreal’s Ville-Marie borough.
