Virtual-only meetings erode shareholder democracy, group warns
BURNABY, B.C. — An initiative led by the B.C. General Employees’ Union that includes pension funds, asset managers and socially responsible investors is raising concerns about the use of virtual-only shareholder meetings and an erosion of shareholder democracy.

TORONTO — The Toronto Maple Leafs have signed defenceman Cade Webber to a two-year, entry-level contract, the NHL club announced Thursday.
The contract carries an average annual value of US$875,000.

World Boxing Association betting suspended in Ontario by regulator

OTTAWA — The Ottawa Redblacks will start the 2024 season without American running back Devonte Williams.
The CFL club announced Thursday that Williams recently had surgery to repair a torn Achilles tendon suffered during off-season training.

Police arrest man in death of two-year-old girl in Calgary
Police in Calgary have made an arrest in the death of a toddler.
Olivia Hayden was rushed to hospital in September 2022 and was later pronounced dead.
The two-year-old’s death was deemed a homicide following an autopsy and a lengthy police investigation.
Police say a man was arrested Wednesday, but he has not been formally charged.
They say the man will likely be charged with manslaughter.
Investigators also say the accused knew the child, and her death was not random.
