MONTREAL — Advocates for a Montreal family fighting deportation to Nigeria say they have been granted temporary permission to stay in Canada.
Quebec legislature member Guillaume Cliche-Rivard says an April 5 deportation order has been cancelled for Deborah Adegboye, her husband and their children.
Cliche-Rivard, who is also an immigration lawyer, says federal immigration officials have granted the family a temporary residence permit that will allow them to remain in the country while they

VICTORIA — The British Columbia government is making changes to rental laws, stopping bad-faith evictions, protecting families who add a child and helping landlords who have problematic tenants.

B.C. records net loss of more than 8,600 in interprovincial migration in 2023
VICTORIA — British Columbia had more people moving out to other provinces in 2023 than those coming in the opposite direction for the first time in more than a decade, according to figures from Statistics Canada.

Boy, 11, killed by large dogs while visiting Edmonton home
EDMONTON — Police say an 11-year-old boy has died after he was attacked by two large dogs in an Edmonton home.
Officers responded to the attack at the home in the city’s south side on Monday night.
Police say the boy was severely injured and officers attempted life-saving measures until paramedics arrived.
He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The two dogs have been seized by animal control officers.
