British Columbia’s solicitor general says there’s no evidence of widespread diversion of safe-supply opioids, after a recent drug seizure was cited by Alberta Premier Danielle Smith and Opposition Leader Pierre Poilievre to criticize the provincial program.
Mike Farnworth says he’s spoken to the RCMP’s commanding officer in B.C. about the seizure in Prince George and was told that the idea that there is widespread diversion is “simply not true.”

‘Ultracompetitive’ Edmundson easing in with Leafs; Marner ‘unlikely’ to play Thursday
TORONTO — Sheldon Keefe picked apart the tape after every game.
One thing became abundantly clear to the Maple Leafs head coach in the first round of the 2021 playoffs — if Toronto’s forwards wanted to get to the front of Montreal’s net, defenceman Joel Edmundson was probably there waiting.
And it wasn’t going to be a pleasant experience.
“He made it miserable,” Keefe recalled Monday. “I can’t remember how many times you’re watching the -

Deepsea eruption expected off Vancouver Island after 200 earthquakes in an hour
Scientists believe hot magma will erupt under the Pacific Ocean floor in deep waters off Vancouver Island after they detected up to 200 small earthquakes per hour in the area.
They say the expected rupture about five kilometres deep and 260 kilometres off the coast of Tofino, B.C., will be too distant and small to be cause for concern, but offers a unique opportunity to learn more about how the Earth’s crust is formed.
Martin Scherwath, a senior scientist with Oceans Networks Canada, -

Purple politician goes orange: Former mayor Nenshi vying for Alberta NDP leadership
CALGARY — Naheed Nenshi cloaked himself in purple — a mix of Liberal red and Conservative blue — during his dark-horse bid to become Calgary’s mayor in 2010, for the 11 years he stayed in the job and in much of his post-city hall life.
The hue of the ties and shirts he donned for work was meant to symbolize his non-partisan approach to getting things done in public office.
But on Monday, the purple ex-mayor entered the arena of ideological fisticuffs, running -
