BURNABY, B.C. — British Columbia’s Independent Investigations Office has been notified by Mounties in Burnaby after a woman died in their custody.
RCMP say in a statement that the woman was arrested on Wednesday night as officers investigated a report of a disturbance and she spent the night in jail without incident.

TORONTO — Centre Connor Dewar was acquired by the Toronto Maple Leafs from the Minnesota Wild ahead of the NHL trade deadline.
Minnesota got a fourth-round selection in the 2026 NHL draft and forward Dmitry Ovchinnikov in return.
Dewar has 10 goals and four assists over 57 games with the Wild this season.
The 24-year-old Dewar has 18 goals and 20 assists in 173 career games with Minnesota.

OTTAWA — A Canadian Security Intelligence Service employee has lost another round in his discrimination lawsuit against the spy agency.
In a 2-1 decision, the Federal Court of Appeal upheld a ruling that found Sameer Ebadi should have followed the internal grievance procedures available to him.
Federal Court Justice Henry Brown had said the court lacked jurisdiction to address Ebadi’s statement of claim filed in January 2020.

SURREY, B.C. — Police in British Columbia say they’ve seized more than 27 tonnes of contraband cigarettes worth more than $24 million in a pair of investigations over the past year.
