Buffalo Sabres lock up defenseman Rasmus Dahlin to 8-year, $88 million contract extension
BUFFALO, N.Y. (AP) — Sabres defenseman Rasmus Dahlin arrived in Buffalo from his native Sweden as a raw 18-year-old who could barely speak English, had little experience living away from home, and unprepared for the growing pains he’d face in maturing into a full-rounded player.
Some five years later, toughened by the adversity of spending his early years playing on a losing team that’s finally showing signs of contending, Dahlin can’t think of a better place to stay for -
Knights looking to repeat, McDavid’s next trick, Bedard’s debut among NHL storylines
Jack Eichel felt like the clock was going in slow motion.
The Vegas Golden Knights were well on their way to capturing the franchise’s first Stanley Cup back in June — up 3-1 on the Florida Panthers in the series and 6-1 through 40 minutes of Game 5.
The teams then proceeded to combine for five goals in the third period, including Vegas captain Mark Stone completing a hat trick.
“The hats come out, that takes a long time,” Eichel recalled. “I don’t even think -

Premier Scott Moe has said he plans to invoke the -

‘Keep evolving’: Canadiens seek more growth as rebuild continues for another season
MONTREAL — The Montreal Canadiens’ brass has used words like “growth,” “progress” and “evolving” to describe what it wants to see this season.
The word “playoffs” hasn’t been as common.
Montreal enters the regular season hoping to take another step in a rebuild that began two seasons ago when the club finished last in the NHL. Last year, the Canadiens were 28th.
After subtle changes in personnel, the goal this season is to k -
Change of atmosphere fuels Calgary Flames’ playoff ambitions
CALGARY — Will a new general manager, coach, captain and attitude push the Calgary Flames over the hump to the playoffs in 2023-24?
A club that missed the NHL post-season last season by two points — and left a league-leading 17 on the table in overtime and shootout losses — starts afresh determined to be a contender with the words “compete, commitment, consistency” adorning the dressing room walls.
“We’ve got the team in here,” defenceman MacKenzie -
Canucks slow talk of playoffs, stress need to grow and develop over quick fixes
VANCOUVER — After the hype and subsequent burnout of the Vancouver Canucks 2022-23 season, management is playing it more cautious this NHL season.
Former coach Bruce Boudreau said at the start of last season that failing to make the playoffs would “be a disaster for us.”
Vancouver finished the season 38-37-7, good enough for sixth in the Pacific Division, with Boudreau fired and replaced midseason by Rick Tocchet.
Tocchet is the third bench boss for the Canucks in three seasons -

Diver Molly Carlson encourages youth to speak up ahead of World Mental Health Day
As qualifying for the 2016 Rio Olympics approached, Molly Carlson found herself in a dark place. She was struggling through a binge eating disorder, had body dysmorphia, and was constantly comparing her body to the other athletes on Canada’s diving team.
Because Carlson is tall for a diver at five-foot-nine, the sport didn’t come naturally to her and she felt that extra pressure while trying to make Canada’s Olympic team.
